Potassium alum also contains natural aluminium. Now you're probably thinking, didn’t you just say aluminium is bad for you? That's right, but Biork's alum stone contains a different type of aluminium, called potassium alum. Potassium alum is a natural mineral salt made up of molecules too large to be absorbed by the skin. They form a protective layer on your skin that inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria.

To stop the sweat flow to the surface of your skin, conventional deodorants contain aluminum. The aluminum plugs the sweat channels in the top layer of your skin to stop the natural sweat flow to the surface of your skin. This aluminum can also be absorbed into your body, where it can then build up and impact physiological functions.

Packaging
The alum stone is packaged in cork, which holds the mineral stone and protects it. Cork is a no waste, renewable material obtained from the bark of cork oaks. It is easy to recycle and recommended by conservation organisations. Cork oaks make a very valuable contribution to mitigating climate change. They store up to 30 percent more CO2 than other trees. Covering an area of about 2.3 million hectares, the Mediterranean cork oak forests absorb about 13 million tons of CO2 per year. The cork trees in Portugal absorb about 5% of the country's CO2 emissions. The bark of the cork oak is harvested every nine years and processed with little waste into various cork products. It is the only tree on Earth whose bark can be removed without damaging the tree. In fact, a cork oak whose bark is regularly harvested binds more than three times as much CO2 as an unused cork oak.

How to use
Wet the top of the crystal and apply it over the odour causing areas. A layer remains on the skin, after application the mineral salts dry quickly, without leaving stains or streaks on the clothing. The salt crystals are not absorbed by the skin, the skin continues to breathe. Do not rub on wounds. Dry the stick after use.
