This autumn seasonal soap by Werfzeep is made with home-drawn extract of hamamelis bark, the colour of which can be seen in the swirl. In addition, Werfzeep has added warming essential oils of star anise, cinnamon, fennel and orange to give this autumn soap a wonderful autumnal scent.
Hamamelis virginiana is native to North America but now grows in Europe. Also called American witch hazel, it has been used for centuries for inflammation, to stem wounds and stimulate blood flow to the skin. It is not botanically related to hazel, but it has a lot of the same properties, only slightly more potent.
Hamamelis promotes the skin's metabolism and its astringent action refines pores. It promotes skin circulation through its flavonoids and has a purifying and soothing effect through its saponins. It supports the skin in cases of acne and has an invigorating effect on tired skin.
In this seasonal soap, Werfzeep uses an extract drawn from both the bark and the leaf of hamamelis. The bark is dark red and therefore gives off a red colour to the extract, which is immediately reflected in the soap!
