Healthy Seas Socks are partly made from old fishing nets. These 'ghost nets' are lost and unsuspectingly left behind in the ocean and are extremely damaging to the beautiful underwater world. Together with the Healthy Seas initiative, Healthy Seas Socks dives the ghost nets from the ocean and processes them into regenerated nylon yarn.
The Healthy Seas initiative was co-founded by Star Sock, the parent company of Healthy Seas Socks. Star Sock has been making high-quality socks for decades and now also in a sustainable way. The co-founders of this non-profit initiative are Ghost Diving and Aquafil. Ghost Diving specializes in recovering ghost nets and Aquafil produces nylon from waste.
Part of the proceeds of Healthy Seas Socks goes to the Healthy Seas initiative. With this money they focus on prevention, education and the re-emergence of lost fishing nets. Since 2013, the Healthy Seas initiative has collected more than 500,000 kilos of fishing nets. Together we make a difference and with a little effort you reduce your ecological footprint on our planet.
In addition, Healthy Seas Socks is committed to better working conditions in the textile industry worldwide. Together with its parent company, Healthy Seas Socks is a member of the Fair Wear foundation. As a Fair Wear member, Star Sock guarantees that its socks are made under good working conditions, pleasant working conditions and for a fair wage.
