Why sustainable sponges and cloths?
Did you know that those colored synthetic dishwashing sponges and microfiber cloths that can be found in every kitchen are made of plastic? This means that with every cleaning, microfibers are washed down the drain and end up in the environment. At the end of their life, they are thrown in the trash, creating a lot of extra waste.
Therefore use compostable sponges and wipes made from plant-based materials, which break down at the end of their life and are not harmful to the environment.
What materials are sustainable sponges and cloths made of?
The sustainable sponges and wipes in our range are plastic-free, plant-based and biodegradable. The sponges and wipes are made from the following materials:
- Loofah sponge:- made from a renewable resource that absorbs CO2 as it grows. The loofah plant is a vigorously growing plant in the cucumber family that is rich in sustainable fibers yet soft and flexible. When ripe, the inside of the loofah fruit develops a network of fibers that are perfect for cleaning and exfoliating when dried.
- Coconut Fibre Scourer - Made from a natural fibre found between the hard inner husk and the outer layer of the coconut. It is a by-product of harvesting. In addition, new crops of coconuts grow repeatedly on the same trees. Coconut fibre has water-resistant and antibacterial properties, making it ideal for cleaning.
- Compostable sponges and cloths - made from a mix of renewable, plant-based raw materials of cotton, wood pulp and flax. This material has a very absorbent capacity and is therefore an extremely suitable cleaning product.
- Steel scouring pads - made of steel, a very suitable material for removing stubborn dirt. They are plastic-free, reusable and recyclable.
What different types of sponges and cloths are there?
There are several types of compostable sponges and cloths that can be used for cleaning your home.
- The coconut fiber sponge is made of a harder material and is therefore very suitable for scrubbing hard surfaces such as hobs or the shower.
- The loofah sponge is a soft, flexible, yet sturdy sponge that does not scratch, so you can use it for everything. The loofah sponge is ideal for washing dishes or cleaning surfaces, baths, sinks, tiles and taps.
- The yellow sponges are made from a mix of renewable, plant-based raw materials, are soft and look exactly like the regular sponges we all know. Use them for washing dishes or cleaning the rest of the house.
- The highly absorbent compostable cloths can be used to replace your microfiber cloths.
