Loofah is a renewable resource that absorbs CO2 when it grows. The loofah plant is a vigorous growing plant from the cucumber family that is rich in sustainable fibers, yet soft and flexible. When the fruit is ripe, the inside of the loofah fruit develops a network of fibers that is perfect for cleaning and exfoliating when dried. The loofahs are harvested, peeled, deseeded and then dried, cut into lengths and hand-processed in Egypt. This processing is a natural tradition that has been passed down through many generations..
LoofCo's mission is to provide an alternative to the mass production of plastic dish brushes, scouring pads and other household products that are not biodegradable. LoofCo sponges are handmade in Egypt and are inspired by cleaning methods that have been used for generations. LoofCo farming practices are sustainable and meet the highest environmental standards. LoofCo ensures that local farmers and production workers have a pleasant workplace and are treated fairly with higher wages and benefits, such as medical insurance. LoofCo does not employ any children.
Rinse the sponge thoroughly before first use. Use the sponge in warm water with detergent, such as a normal dishwashing sponge. The sponge will rub when dry, but when you submerge it in water it will swell into a soft, flexible sponge. To keep the loofah good, squeeze out any excess water, shake out any food particles, and hang the sponge on the cotton loop to dry. Wash the sponge occasionally in the washing machine or by hand if desired.
