The Bamboo Brush Society ('TBBS') bamboo toothbrushes are made from sustainable Moso bamboo. The bamboo is heat treated to carbonize the surface of the bamboo. This makes the handle water resistant and antibacterial. The handle is biodegradable.
The bristles are made of castor oil and nylon. The oil extracted from the plant is mixed with the nylon. The bristles are therefore not completely biodegradable, due to the fact that they contain nylon, but they are currently the best option available. The only available material that is biodegradable is pig hair. This is not a solution for TBBS, because they love animals. For the same reason, Zo Zero consciously chooses to offer toothbrushes with nylon. In our opinion, this is currently the best available product.
TBBS continues to work closely with its manufacturer and is looking for a better alternative. Until then, we ask that you remove the hair from the brush and dispose of it separately.
With every purchase, TBBS donates a portion to the Plastic Soup Foundation, which aims to put an end to the growing amount of plastic polluting the oceans by tackling the problem at the source.
The toothbrushes are also available in sets of four brushes, enough to last you a whole year without having to worry about a new toothbrush!
Fun Fact:
Did you know that bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world? There are over 1500 species of bamboo. TBBS toothbrushes are made from Moso bamboo, a species that pandas do not eat.
TBBS believes that bamboo offers many more possibilities with its versatility and is therefore constantly looking for new applications to replace traditional materials.
