Natural Lip Balms & Lip & Cheek Stains

Why use natural lip balm?

We all know that annoying feeling of dried out lips. The skin on your lips is thinner than the rest of your skin and therefore it is more prone to damage. By using a natural lip balm, you protect and moisturise the skin. In addition, your lips are nourished and a natural lip balm contains ingredients to repair chapped lips. To properly protect your skin, it is important to use the right ingredients and not ingredients that damage your skin even more. Especially because you swallow part of your lip balm while wearing it.

Which ingredients are (not) in natural lip balm?

Non-natural lip balms often contain substances that may be carcinogenic or endocrine disrupting. The possible carcinogens are contained in mineral oils and are called MOSH and MOAH. These are abbreviations for two types of hydrocarbons. These two ingredients aren't listed on your lip balm label, but it's best to avoid the following ingredients:

  • Cera microcrystallina
  • Ceresin (Hydrogenated)
  • Microcrystalline wax (Hydrogenated)
  • Polyisobutene
  • Mineral oil
  • Ozokerite
  • Paraffin (liquidum)
  • Petrolatum
  • Polyethylene
  • Polybutene

The hormone-disrupting substances are EDCs and can, in the long term, cause fertility problems, obesity or cardiovascular disease. Preferably choose a lip balm without:

  • Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate
  • BHT
  • Benzyl salicylate
  • Benzophenone-3

In addition, many non-natural lip balms contain water, water may sound harmless, but water dries out your skin so that you want to use your lip balm again and again.

Which ingredients are safe and will you find in natural lip balms? These are in most cases lip balms based on natural butters and oils such as shea butter, almond oil, olive oil or coconut oil.

What different types of natural lip balms are there?

At Zo Zero you can buy natural lip balms by Beauty Made Easy - Le Papier, Valley Mist, HelemaalShea and LO and a lip balm with SPF by Attitude.

There are regular lip balms with different flavours, natural lip balms with a colour and natural lip & cheek balms that you can use on your lips as well as your face. All natural lip care that you can buy at Zo Zero is vegan & cruelty-free.

Vegan Lip Balm

Vegan lip balm is not only suitable for vegans. By choosing a vegan lip balm, you not only know for sure that you are not using animal ingredients on your lips, but also that your vegan lip balm is cruelty-free.

Natural lip & cheek balms

For everyone who likes to have a teint on their face, there are beautiful natural lip & cheek balms. You can use natural lip & cheek stains as a natural lip balm, but you can also use it on your cheeks or eyes; anywhere you could use a little colour. The natural lip & cheek balms contain a hint of colour, which you can intensify by using several layers on top of each other. The colour then slowly fades from your lips and does not leave any lines.

Natural lip balm with SPF

Yes, your lips can also burn and that is why it is important to use a natural sunscreen lip balm. A natural lip balm with SPF protects not only your lips, but also the skin around your lips, so that you get fewer wrinkles around your mouth that are caused by the sun.

In addition to the normal hydration and care of a natural lip care, a sunscreen lip balm also protects your lips against UV radiation. UV radiation causes skin aging and because the skin on your lips is so thin, it can use every bit of extra protection!

What are the benefits of natural lip balm?

  • The packaging of all our natural lip balms is plastic-free, so you don't add to the plastic soup
  • All natural lip care at Zo Zero is vegan & cruelty-free
  • Natural lip balms do not contain harmful ingredients that are potentially carcinogenic or endocrine disrupting
  • Your lips won't get addicted to natural lip balms because they don't contain petroleum jelly

Which lip balms will you not find at Zo Zero?

Because all products at Zo Zero are vegan, we do not sell natural lip balms with beeswax.

You won't find any lip balm made with petroleum jelly at Zo Zero either. Petroleum jelly is a by-product of petroleum (just like gasoline and diesel). The petroleum jelly that is often used for skin and lip products has been purified, but it remains a residual product of petroleum and who wants that on their lips!?

Besides the fact that petroleum jelly is a petroleum byproduct, your lips can also become addicted to it. By using petroleum jelly, your own skin becomes lazy and the skin produces less and less fat. You then have to use more and more lip balm, which ends up in a vicious circle. Did you want to use the lip balm to prevent dry lips? That works in the short term, but in the long-term the lip balm dries out your lips and you need more and more of it. For these reasons, you won't find any lip balms with petroleum jelly at Zo Zero.
