Join us for Earth Hour 2022

What is Earth Hour?

Every year, on the last Saturday of March between 20:30 and 21:30 (local time), supporters in more than 190 countries and territories take action to ensure a brighter future for people and the planet. Join us this year, switch off your lights for an hour and spread the word to your loved ones; the more the merrier!

Earth Hour was started by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007 in Sydney to raise awareness of climate change. People all over the world were encouraged to switch off their lights to call attention to climate change.

Now, in 2022, Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment. And that’s just as well, because more than a decade later, the climate crisis remains, made worse by another urgent threat: the rapid loss of biodiversity and nature.

Today, Earth Hour aims to increase awareness and spark global conversations on protecting nature, tackling the climate crisis, and working together to shape a brighter future for us all.

Switch off your lights

Not sure how to spend your evening after turning off the lights? Earth Hour gives 7 tips to make it an impactful evening together with friends, family or the community.

  1. Reconnect with nature - nature is essential for our health and happiness. Take your friends and family outside and explore the beach and parks in the dark or even go stargazing!
  2. Cook a lovely dinner - candle-lit dinners aren’t just for Valentine’s Day. Invite your friends and family over for a dinner in the dark.
  3. Spend time with your loved ones - don’t feel like cooking or going outside? You can of course also spend some quality time with those who matter most to you and play board games, listen to music or dance the night away together.
  4. Up your knowledge - awareness is the first step before action. Use Earth Hour to learn more about our incredible planet, the challenges we face, and what we need to do to turn things around.
  5. Connect with your community - attend a local Earth Hour event or find other organisations and initiatives where you can volunteer to help out.
  6. Get active - we can only take care of others and the planet if we take care of ourselves. Use this hour to get moving and sweating, go on a night cycle or put on your favourite playlist and dance in the dark. Or choose a relaxing candle-lit yoga session.
  7. Discover your artistic side - if you don’t feel like working your body, work your creative mind in the night! Try to take some beautiful night photographs, paint, or upcycle something around the home.
